Tanglewood Whole Home Renovation
This project was the complete renovation of the kitchen and main living areas as well as the bathrooms, master suite addition and the construction of a detached multi-purpose carport/mother-in-law suite. The property was purchased by the homeowner with the intent to remodel immediately.
The homeowner and decorator partnered to select beautiful finishes combining natural stone, a blend of wood tones and neutral grays.
The first challenge was to remove as many walls as possible in the main area of the home in order to be able to entertain large family gatherings. The walls separating the kitchen, living, formal dining and entry were all removed and large engineered structural beams were installed flush with the ceiling to maintain clean lines. A significant amount of kitchen storage was sacrificed for the open floor plan, so the eat-in island was oversized. The island cabinets are two-sided with a trash drawer and icemaker and it is topped with a large quartz slab for meal prep, dining or serving.
The kitchen and breakfast area are beneath a vaulted ceiling to visually connect the two rooms. The breakfast area included an existing brick fireplace. There was a door to one side of the fireplace and built-in cabinets to the other. But the symmetry was off. We resized the door and the cabinet to be symmetrical, re-faced the fireplace in ledgestone, and created a custom mantle to match the main living room.
The master suite needed more space to relocate the laundry to the master closet and create a true walk-in closet. We added approximately 400SF for the closet with on-suite laundry and increased the size of the existing bathroom. The tub, shower, vanities and entry were renovated and relocated to improve the flow of the space. The closet included custom cabinets with custom shelves, rods and an island for storage and folding area.
